Policeman Arrested For Child Trafficking
Tension has pervaded the atmosphere of Imo State Police Command over the arrest of a corporal identified as Uche Odoemena, popularly known as Prince, who is currently serving at Okigwe area command, for his alleged involvement in child trafficking.
Police sources told Punch that the police corporal who is currently held at the federal prisons in Owerri after the commissioner of police in the state, Taiwo Lakanu, ordered that he be tried, was arrested in Okigwe and bundled to Owerri on Wednesday.
Sources say Odoemena, who is married to a police Sergeant, identified as Cynthia Odoemena, attached to the command headquarters in Owerri, was an alleged habitual human trafficker.
The say the Policeman had snatched on a gunpoint, a newly born baby from a mother whose, identify had yet to be ascertained as of the time of reporting, in Anambra State and sold him subsequently for N600,000 (six hundred thousand Naira).
The sources disclosed that it was the painstaking investigation carried out by the police officers in Anambra upon the nursing mother’s complaint that led to his arrest.
According to sources, the CP who was enraged at the development, ordered that he be dismissed immediately and be prosecuted accordingly.
