A 72-year-old man arrested in Iwo, Osun state for removing a human skull from a cemetery says he made a mistake, Daily Trust reports. Idris Ajao claimed to be a bricklayer, but said a herbalist Tajudeen Jawesola had assigned him to exhume skulls from graves in the cemetery in return for N10,000. Police, acting on a tipoff, deployed around the cemetery and arrested him with a skull.

A 37-year old man, Victor Ojiaku, who allegedly stabbed his wife, a student, with a broken bottle in her private part, is on reprieve as an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court has granted him N250,000 bail. Ojiaku, who sells automobile parts and resides at 22, Arike John Close, White Sand, Isheri-Osun in Lagos, had reportedly  stabbed his wife for having s*x with his sales representative . Magistrate Akeem Fashola, who gave the ruling, said he should produce two sureties working in reputable firm and possess three years tax clearance as well as the State’s residents identity card.

A cross-section of Nigerians have highlighted the areas they want President Muhammadu Buhari to focus on in 2017 with many others, especially workers describing 2016 as their worst year ever and one in which they became poorer. Top on the wish list presented to the President are calls for him to find solution to the rising cases of hunger in the land by fixing the economy, tackling corruption successfully and ending insurgency. Others that also made the wish list include calls on the President to restructure the country, ensure equity in governance and improve security of lives and properties generally, especially by putting a stop to attacks by Fulani herdsmen. The Director-General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Muda Yusuf, said it was imperative for the President to address the rising cases of hunger among Nigerians, even if it was by “relaxing government’s policy on importation of food items for a short term to stem hunger.”

Greek ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis vanished without trace on Boxing Day, when he left the home of his wife's relatives in Rio de Janeiro and never returned The Greek ambassador to Brazil whose body was found in a burnt-out car in Rio de Janeiro was murdered after finding his wife in bed with another man, police believe. The charred remains of Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, were found on Wednesday underneath an overpass in the city, inside the car the diplomat had hired to spend Christmas and New Year with his wife's relatives. His Brazilian wife Francoise Amiridis told police she was out shopping on Monday night when he phoned her at 8pm, saying he was going out, and never returned home.

Man Stabs Married Woman For Fighting His Wife In Lagos

A 41-year-old welder, Lukmon Kolawole, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a married woman with bottle for fighting his wife. The man, a resident of Aresanolu St. Agege, Lagos, is being tried for breach of peace and assault. According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 19 at his residence. He said that the accused assaulted one Mrs Joy Asekharme by beating and stabbing her on her head. Nwosu said that the accused came home and met his wife in a physical fight with the complainant.

An attempt by Boko Haram to invade Rann, a small community in Borno State yesterday ended in a tragedy for the terrorist group. At least 15 of them were killed in a dawn attack on a contingent of soldiers from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion stationed in the area. Some of the soldiers were injured but are getting better. Our troops overpowered the invaders, killing many on the spot, while the rest took to their heels. The terrorists are believed to be among those recently dislodged from Sambissa Forest.

A 42-year-old woman, Omolade Omoniyi, who is now late, has revealed in a video released by her family how she said her husband's house, a pastor with the Christ Apostolic Church, Onigbogbo, Atan Ota, Ogun State, Pastor Olusegun Omoniyi, was bewitched, making her sick till she died. The release of the video is coming more than 10 months after she died following what her family termed “mysterious attacks” which had forced her to flee her matrimonial home. A source close to the matter told The Guardian that his redeployment back to Nigerian Police Force (NPF) was to pave way for a fresh person to be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari as the nominee to head the anti-graft agency before the Senate.

A magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Fimihan Adeoye, to arrest Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and bring him to court on January 6. The magistrate, Olusola Aluko, gave the fresh order on Friday when the case involving the monarch came up for hearing again. $4.2b missing in NNPC under Buhari – US governance report

A new report said despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s attempt at ensuring transparency in the oil sector, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, still withholds Billions in oil revenues from the government account. The report by the Natural Resource Governance Institute, titled “NNPC still holds blank check” said that within the first six months of the Buhari administration, the NNPC withheld over $4.2 billion (about N824.7 billion) out of a total of $6.3 billion (N1.24 trillion) revenues realised from crude oil sales in the second half of 2015.  The withheld revenues represented about 66 percent of the total revenue – $1.4 billion earnings from Nigeria’s regular crude oil exports for the period; $3.4 billion from domestic crude oil sales, and $1.5 billion from oil sold from the corporation’s upstream subsidiary, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC oil fields.

At least 15 Boko Haram fighters were killed in Borno State today Friday as troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Boko Haram terrorists engaged in fierce gun battle. Military insiders said the battle ensued at 6am this morning and did not end until after 9am. The sources told Premium Times that the battle began when fighters of the terror group launched a surprise attack on troops location in Rann, in northern Borno, shooting sporadically. Troops from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion are stationed in the area. The soldiers responded promptly, killing an many of the terrorists, and wounding several others .

Over 40,000 bags of rice seized by the Nigeria Customs Service have been shared to Internally Displaced Persons’ camps, its Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali, has stated. The Customs CG, represented by a Deputy Comptroller-General, Umar Ilya, said this on Thursday in Abuja, at a joint press briefing with the acting DG of NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, on the outcome of laboratory tests conducted on the confiscated rice allegedly imported into the country. At the event, Oni explained that no plastic rice was imported into the country.

It was an emotion-packed atmosphere yesterday as late Temidayo Adeleke, who was stabbed to death by her Cameroonian house help, was laid to rest at The Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos. Prior to the burial, a funeral service attended by families and friends of the deceased was held at Guiding Light Assembly on Parkview Estate, where the victim lived. Recalled that Joel Ludguo approached the 32-year-old lady around 10.30pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, and asked for advance payment of N15,000 out of his N27,000 salary. Adeleke, whose marriage was slated for early 2017, was said to have pleaded with him to be patient, saying she did not have naira notes on her. But he refused. Her entreaty fell on deaf ears as Ludguo left the boss’ living room in anger only to return minutes later with a knife and stabbed her in the chest. The police had said the 22-year-old cleaner was desperate to send the money to his girlfriend in Cameroon, adding that the suspect would be duly prosecuted. A ma

Third Mainland Bridge: Police Nab More Suspects... Patrolling Waterways

The police have arrested three other suspects in connection with a plan by a militant group to bomb the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. The marine police had also intensified water patrol around the bridge area to avert any attack from members of the gang, who were on the run. It had been reported that a bomb expert of the group, Abiodun Amos, aka Senti, was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. He was said to have been apprehended during the last phase of the foiled plan with two Ak-47 rifles and a cache of explosives recovered from the boot of his car.

Wike Raises Alarm: APC Plotting To Bomb My Plane

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state of planning to bomb him while travelling in a plane. Wike explained that the target was for the state APC to get rid of him in its desperate bid to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state. Maintaining that no one had the ability to destroy what God had blessed, Wike said the opposition party in the state was not happy that he was paying workers’ salaries and pensions to retirees despite the economic recession. Wike, who spoke on Thursday at a thanksgiving service organised by the state PDP in Port Harcourt, criticised those calling for bloodshed in the state for selfish reasons. The governor said blood would continue to flow in their families. He explained that God would continue to grant him victory no matter how hard the APC leaders in the state planned to eliminate him.

I decided to take the bull by the horn. I went to Enugu State University for a pre-degree program. On the completion of the program, I was offered a course in faculty of Science but the cultism in the institution as at then was unbearable for me, having being attacked twice. I decided to use the 5th JAMB that was released to study at University of Port Harcourt. Then ASUU had a protracted strike that lasted for over six months, I needed to write a 6th JAMB and I scored 274 but that score couldn’t offer me admissions as the two JAMBS were combined because the strike entered another year. 

Woman Arrested, Arraigned For ‘Stealing’ T-Shirts

A 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Ngozi Biosah, has been arraigned at the Asaba Magistrates’ Court in Delta State for alleged stealing. She was charged with allegedly stealing five Polo T-shirts valued at N15,000, belonging to one Mrs. Judith Ojie. Prosecuting police officer Mrs. Blessing Okafor told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence on September 19 at Shop 1, DLA Road, Asaba. She said the offence was punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law Cap C21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006. The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N80,000. The Magistrate, Akanume Okonkwo, ordered that the surety, who must be a civil servant, should live in Asaba, with evidence of employment. The case was adjourned till January 4 for hearing. N80,000 bail for allegedly stealing N15,000 shirts. Hmmmm!

Some appointees of President Muhammadu Buhari would be relieved of their jobs in 2017.  A top source in the Presidency specifically said appointees indicted or tainted with allegations of graft “would be shown the door and it will be sooner than later.” The sack, it was learnt, may be before the end of the first quarter of 2017. The top official insisted “Buhari will shock Nigerians who think he cannot act on graft allegations against some of his appointees. He is only being fair since some of them are being investigated on those allegations and reports are being awaited…But, the President will drop some next year; that’s for sure.”

Militant Planning To Bomb Third Mainland Bridge Arrested

The police have foiled an attempt by a notorious Niger Delta militant group operating from the creeks of Ikorodu and Arepo on the outskirts of Lagos to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. A top commander of the group, Abiodun Amos, who is also known as Senti, an Ijaw from Arogbo, Ese-Odo area of Ondo State, who is also said to be the group’s explosive expert, was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), who trailed him to a river bank at Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos. The militant leaders was caught unawares... Two AK47 rifles hidden in a “Ghana-Must-Go” bag were found with the suspect. He led the IRT operatives to a vehicle parked discreetly within Ikorodu, where a large catche of dynamite and detonators was recovered— from its boot.

Actress Carrie Fisher’s Mom Dies Two Days After Her Death

This is sad. Carrie Fisher’s mother, 84yrs old Debbie Reynolds, has also died. Madam Debbie who was taken to hospital by ambulance from her son's Beverly Hills home yesterday with a reported stroke died at the hospital. The actress was planning her own daughter, actress Carrie Fisher's funeral before she also passed on. Fisher died on Tuesday, four days after a heart attack on board a flight from London to L.A. She was her mum's only daughter.
