Tension has pervaded the atmosphere of Imo State Police Command over the arrest of a corporal identified as Uche Odoemena, popularly known as Prince, who is currently serving at Okigwe area command, for his alleged involvement in child trafficking. Police sources told Punch that the police corporal who is currently held at the federal prisons in Owerri after the commissioner of police in the state, Taiwo Lakanu, ordered that he be tried, was arrested in Okigwe and bundled to Owerri on Wednesday.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday visited Ibogun, Ogun State, the ancestral village benefactor, Baba Olusegun Obasanjo. The rare meeting between the duo who were bitterly divided in the run-up to the 2015 election saw Obasanjo tell his host how wise he (Jonathan) had become since leaving office. “When leaders come, they have little or no experience. Nigerian participants in the ponzi scheme MMM are losing patience, a week after the resumption of service as the promise to begin payment is becoming a long story. Thousands of participants whose applications were yet to be attended have been venting their anger on the brains behind the scheme for the frustration in accessing their money. They rage, curse and threaten unrestrained on the MMM Help platform after unsuccessful attempts to get response to their many inquiries on the status of their money. One Hayat Mohammed said: “I really need help. I provided help of 50000 now I made a request to get help, the request was processed but I’ve not being matched with another participant who will pay me. They won’t even pick my calls. So my money is lost, isn’t it?...”

After 22 years in power, Gambia’s former president, Yahya Jammeh will now leave Banjul today (Saturday) with President Alpha Conde of Guinea, to begin a new life in exile. This all-important decision followed Friday’s final peace move. Two West African leaders travelled to Banjul to persuade the long ruling Jammeh to leave office peacefully before West African forces pounced on him.

Yahya Jammeh has adamantly refused to step down as the president of the Gambia, even after the swearing-in of his successor, Adama Barrow. Gambia's information minister, Sidie Njie, informed BBC that Yahyah Jammeh has no intention of leaving office. Umaru Fofana, a BBC journalist revealed this in a tweet.

Some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who took part in the rally they staged in support of US President-elect, Donald Trump in Port Harcourt Rivers state earlier today, were killed after police officers allegedly opened fire. Boko Haram members yesterday attacked the Rann IDP camp in Borno state. This attack comes just few days after over 50 people were killed in an accidental air strike by a Nigerian airforce jet in the same camp. According to reports, the sect members stormed the camp at about 6pm, shooting sporadically into the air. They were engaged in a fierce gun battle with troops stationed at the entrance of the camp. Mexican Drug lord El Chapo has arrived New York after being extradited from Mexico. The cartel boss, whose real name is Joaquin Guzman, was seen being led into an aircraft hangar in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, on Thursday night. Tragedy struck in Fagbile Phase 3 Estate, White Sand, in the Ijegun area of Lagos after gunmen killed two persons and abducted a young girl, Uloma Igwe. Those killed were identified as Chairman of the Harmony Community Development Association, Malam Ibrahim Omatar, and a Togolese, identified simply as Job. It was gathered that Mr. Omatar was returning from work when a landlord called him on phone, saying he was being attacked by suspected robbers. The 47-year-old reportedly raised the alarm in order to mobilise the local vigilance group and alert other residents. The gunmen were said to have shot him in the head and chest, killing him on the spot . Job, a block molder, was reportedly killed some distance away. A resident, who did not want to be identified for security reason, said the Tuesday attack which happened around 8pm was not up to 15 minutes.

Governor Ayo Fayose has described the non- invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari to Donald Trump’s inauguration as the President of the United States today as a clear signal that the President has lost international relevance. The governor said the development was a very clear signal that Buhari’s government would not enjoy tangible support from the new US government. Fayose, according to a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, on Thursday said there was no doubt that Buhari was not in the good books of the incoming US government.

Troops with backing of ECOWAS have entered Gambia to ensure Adama Barrow assumes power as the country’s new president. This followed his swearing in at the Gambia’s embassy in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. Senegalese army spokesman, Col. Abdou Ndiaye, was quoted by news agencies as saying the country’s troops entered Gambia on Thursday afternoon. This is just as the Nigerian Air Force spokesman, Ayodele Famuyiwa, said Nigerian troops had surrounded the country and could strike if situations demanded.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said there was nothing wrong in him embarking on a short vacation as announced in a statement by the Presidency earlier in the day. He said he embarked on a similar trip about the same time in 2016. Buhari spoke with select journalists shortly before leaving the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja for London, United Kingdom. He asked; “What is wrong with going on vacation? Didn’t I go last year at the same time?”

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris was at the National Assembly today, to answer to the call of the House of Reps, on the issue of alleged funds diversion. The IGP was alleged to have diverted N1.2bn, meant for the purchase of 10 Armoured Personnel Carriers for the Nigeria Police. The embattled Supreme Court judge, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta who is facing money laundering charges, is having more troubles. Before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, a building contractor, Mr. Linus Nwamba, revealed where Justice Ngwuta hides his money. He further revealed how the Justice handed him over N313 million within nine months.  Nwamba, who testified as the first prosecution witness, PW-1, said Justice Ngwuta gave him the money in cash, between January 4 and September 2016. The witness who was led in evidence by government lawyer, Charles Adeogun-Philips, narrated to the court how the embattled jurist called him barely 24 hours after he was released on administrative bail by the Department of State Service, DSS and directed him to go to his residence in Abakaliki in Ebonyi State and remove N27million he hid in his bathroom.

The Gambia's embattled outgoing president, Yahya Jammeh has suffered another blow in his quest to remain in power as his lawyer has fled the country.   The lawyer, Edu Gomez, fled to neighbouring Senegal. He fled after penning the president a letter to step down from office in the interest of peace. Mr. Gomez had represented Jammeh in his failed bid to have the country’s Supreme Court overturn the victory of President-elect Adama Barrow, and stop his inauguration as President. In his letter, according to PT, Gomez said he was made to work under “tremendous pressure and coercion” as the lawyer of the now largely isolated leader and his party.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture in Mafa LGA of Borno State, Umar Ibrahim; and four others for the alleged diversion of 300 bags of rice donated by Danish Refugee Council, a Non-Governmental Organisation and meant for Internally Displayed Persons in the council. A driver attached to the Cross River commissioner for commerce and industry, Calistus Okune, was on Wednesday remanded in the Afokang Prison in Calabar for assaulting two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Okune was alleged to have acted on orders of his boss, Peter Egba, after the Toyota Corolla that he was driving was impounded for several offences, including driving without using seat belt and use of fake government number plate. The incident was said to have happened in front of a magistrate, who presided over cases of traffic offences, during a mobile court session facilitated by the FRSC. While one of the affected FRSC officials was beaten up and had his uniforms torn by the aggrieved driver, the other had a deep cut in his head.

The prosecution in the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki before the CCT in Abuja is set to demonstrate how he ""operated his foreign accounts which he is accused of failing to declare. The prosecution team, led by Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), which is scheduled to call its third witness, led evidence to support its claim that Saraki operated foreign accounts as a public officer. The second prosecution witness, Amazu Nwachuckwu, who is Head of Funds Transfer Unit, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), told the court on January 17 that Saraki operated foreign accounts between 2009 and 2012, while serving as a public officer.
