INTERPOL confirms Hushpuppi's arrest, plans to extradite him and two others to Nigeria

The International Police (INTERPOL) Nigeria has confirmed the arrest of Instagram celebrity Raymond Igbalode a.k.a. Hushpuppi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  Commissioner of Police (CP) INTERPOL in Nigeria, Garba Umar, confirmed his arrest to The Nation, He said plans are on the way to extradite him to Nigeria.

First lady, Aisha Buhari, is currently the number one trending topic on Nigerian Twitter after she took to the platform to ask the Mohammed Adamu, inspector general of police (IGP), to release her aides from detention.  According to SaharaReporters, Sabiu Yusuf, a nephew to President Buhari who also serves as one of his Personal Assistant, had traveled from Lagos to Abuja on Monday, June 8 and drove straight to the villa where he resides but he was denied access by the aides of the first lady who insisted he goes into self-isolation at a different location since he was returning from Lagos which is the epicenter of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

FG to retain passports of travellers to Nigeria

Citizens or foreigners coming into Nigeria will henceforth leave their passports with the Nigeria Immigration Service for two weeks, till their health status is verified.    In a circular dated June 10, 2020 and addressed to all diplomatic, consular and international organisations accredited to Nigeria, it was gathered that only those with diplomatic passport are exempted from the new directives.  The circular with reference number BW/20/CIR.LET/III/2020 reads;

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has reacted to the decision of the APC to disqualify him from participating in the party's governorship primaries slated for June 22, 2020.  The chairman of the screening committee, Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, today announced that Obaseki and two others did not meet the requirement set by the APC to participate in the primaries.

EFCC didn’t recover N7.9 Billion from me - Rochas Okorocha

Former Imo state Governor and Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of transmitting false information against him, stating that no money was recovered from him by the anti-graft agency. Senator Okorocha's denial comes after   Mr Usman Imam  , the Head of the Port Harcourt zone of the EFCC, stated during a press conference that he   recovered   over N5.7 billion out of N7.9 billion in different bank accounts and assets belonging to the former Imo governor, while  he was in charge of the Enugu branch of the commission.

Mompha, the Nigerian social media big boy who is known for his luxury lifestyle has lashed out at Nigerians tagging the FBI and Interpol on his Instagram page following unconfirmed report of the arrest of three Dubai-based Nigerian social media big boys, including Hushpuppi.  In his post addressed to those he described as "hypocrites and people who never mind their business Bastards", Mompha hurled curses at those who leave "You're next" comments on his posts on the social media platform.  He wrote;

The woman who  beat up her 2-year-old daughter and called her a prostitute after she caught a man raping her  has been sent to a rehabilitation center for mentally challenged people by the Lagos state government and her two children taken away from her. A statement released by the state government this morning, says the rescue operation was carried out by officials of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development after the video of the woman abusing her daughter was shared online by a resident of the state.

20-year-old man sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for raping eight-year-old girl in Ogun

A twenty-year-old man Musa Anifowose, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Ogun State Magistrate for raping an eight-year-old girl. According to the prosecutor, Bukola Abolade, Musa committed the crime on May 1, 2020, around 9am at Number 6 Agbaje street in Sabo, Ijebu Ode in the state. The prosecutor told the court that Musa raped the minor when her mother sent her on an errand. The victim's mother observed bloodstains on her daughter's legs, cloth and private parts when she returned. On inquiry, the victim said it was Musa who violated her. She said he took her to an abandoned building close to an Abattoir where he violated her.

Event Centers remain shut for now- Lagos state govt

The Lagos State Government has clarified its position on reopening of event centres in the state, explaining that owners of such places must register their facilities pending issuance of further directives by Governor Sanwo-Olu in respect of their operations. The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat AkinbiIe-Yusuf, who made the clarification following media reports that owners of event centres could now open for operations, maintained that all event centres and cinemas are to remain shut for now.

Donald Trump's campaign ralies are back, as the US President has announced he is set to have his first campaign rally next week Friday, the first time he'll be doing so since the Covid-19 pandemic started in the US. His first re-election campaign rally will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the 19th of June, known as "Juneteenth", the date that African Americans celebrate the end of slavery. In 1921 the city of Tulsa was the site of one of the worst massacres of black people in US history and during an unannounced event at the White House on Wednesday Afternoon, Trump surrounded by prominent black supporters, said he wants to get back on the campaign trail with his stadium-filling rallies.

Senate passes revised 2020 budget of N10.8 trillion

The Senate has passed the revised 2020 budget of N10.8 trillion. The budget was passed this morning Thursday, June 11 during plenary. The passage of the budget comes a day after the House of Representatives passed the same figure as the 2020 budget. The lawmakers increased the budget by N300 billion from N10.5 trillion. The budget was initially passed in December but the executive sent it back to National Assembly after the executive reworked it to reflect the current economic realities.

Popular hair vendor, Anna of Annishair, has died. According to reports, Anna died a few days ago from a brief illness. Although the cause of her death is not yet known, her friends who took to social media to mourn her passing, claimed she was poisoned.

Imo records first Coronavirus death

Imo state has recorded its first Coronavirus death as confirmed on Wednesday June 10, by the Chairman of the COVID-19 Taskforce in the state, Professor Maurice Iwu.  Prof Iwu disclosed that the deceased had an underlying health issues before he was brought to the isolation centre. This complicated his chances of survival. As at Wednesday, Imo state had 83 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. 

Lockdown escalated the number of rape cases - Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen

Pauline Tallen, Nigeria's Minister of Women Affairs, has attributed the spike in the number of rape cases to the lockdown. Tallen said this to state house correspondents on Wednesday, June 10 after the Federal Executive Council meeting where she brought up the rape pandemic in the country. She disclosed that an action plan which would involve the judiciary and the media, is being put in place to tackle the rape menace. 

Senate confirms Yuguda's appointment as SEC DG

The appointment of a former director of the central bank of Nigeria, Lamido Yuguda as the director-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been confirmed by the Nigerian senate.  Appointments of Reginald Karausa, Ibrahim Boyi, and Obi Joseph as full-time commissioners of the agency were also confirmed by the lawmakers following a report presented by the chairman of Senate capital market committee, Ibikunle Amosun (APC, Ogun). Before Yuguda's confirmation, senators from Akwa Ibom state had filed a petition requestiing that Mary Uduk who had been acting as SEC DG since Mounir Gwarzo was suspended two years ago, be confirmed as the substantive head.

Iran to execute spy convicted of helping US kill top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani

An Iranian national convicted of spying for the US and Israel by helping target top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani will be executed soon, Iran's judiciary said on Tuesday. Mahmoud Mousavi Majd was convicted of spying on Iran's armed forces "especially the Quds Force and on the whereabouts and movements of martyr General Qassem Soleimani" for large sums of money from both Israel's Mossad and the CIA, judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili told a televised news conference.

Nigerian Pastor Dies From COVID 19 Complications.....

A pastor who was allegedly smuggled into a private hospital in Sapele, Delta State on Saturday, after he developed Coronavirus complications has reportedly died on  Monday night while awaiting evacuation after the hospital was closed by the Delta State Ministry of Health monitoring team.  The pastor, Wilson Okotie, Senior Pastor, High Impact Christian Centre, was said to have fallen sick on Thursday night and was taken to a clinic in Warri, from where he was again referred back to the clinic in Sapele.
