The Director General, Media and Publicity to Kogi State Governor, Kingsley Fanwo has assure the people of the state that Governor Yahaya Bello will not be cowed by media attacks on his person and government by people who are “threatened by the rising profile of the Governor in the State." The Governor’s image-maker said it is “reckless on the part of those who failed the people of Kogi for 13 years to turn around to blame a Governor who has performed excellently in 9 months." According to him, the people of Kogi State know who their real enemies are. 

Condemnation have greeted comments by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan that his National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, did not steal $2.1bn contrary to the accusation by the EFCC. Sambo Dasuki is currently being prosecuted by the anti-corruption agency. Jonathan had said it's inconceivable to say that Dasuki stole $2.2bn, contending that his government, where Dasuki served as NSA, bought warships, aircraft and some equipment for the military.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu has stated that the anti-graft agency is searching for a former BBC reporter, Jamila Tangaza. He said the commission is on the lookout for Jamila, who is being investigated over allegations of financial crimes, following reports that she attempted to jump bail and escape the country.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have debunked reports by Femi Fani-Kayode's media aide, Jude Ndukwe, that the former spokesman of Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Group, Mr Femi Fani- Kayode, slumped yesterday at their premises. In a quick rebuttal, EFCC dismissed Ndukwe’s claims, saying there was no truth whatsoever to them. The spokesman for EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren said:  “There is no truth whatsoever in the dubious and attention-seeking alarm that Fani-Kayode slumped and was revived by EFCC medical personnel. There was nothing like that as the said Fani-Kayode and Obanikoro sat together and enjoyed their jokes at the first round of checks of inmates in EFCC custody on Monday night."

For the country to get out of the present recession, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for an increase in the volume of trade internally and externally and the establishment of commodity exchange to ensure stability in the prices of agricultural produce. Baba Obasanjo explained that there was a need to spend less on goods that the nation could do away with, earn more from the manufacturing sector and borrow to finance critical sectors of the economy.

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested three workers of Peakins Pharmaceutical in Lagos, for allegedly stealing drugs estimated at N56m. The suspects are Emmanuel Okechukwu, Ikechukwu Orji and Chisom Azubuke. Two others, who were estate security guards, Uchechukwu Ofoepeka and Goddy Ogobi, were named as accomplices. All five guys are now in police custody. It all started when the owner of the company, Isaac Ugwu, caught one of the workers, Okechukwu, with a carton of a drug valued at N400,000.

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he was never elected as Nigeria’s president to spread poverty but to generate and spread wealth. He spoke at the Oxford Union, with the theme ‘Fostering Youth Entrepreneurship'.

A few days after he was taking into the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Femi Fani-Kayode was said to have slumped on Monday under controversial circumstances. Some close to him say he's not feeling too well. But others think he's pretending.

State governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Monday expressed their displeasure on how they were being sidelined in the choice of those being given federal appointments in their states by President Muhammadu Buhari and his kitchen cabinet. The governors protested to Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at a meeting they had at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Many of the governors are very angry.

Mr. Usman Bugaje, an ambassadorial nominee from Kastina state, has turned down his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari. Bugaje is the second nominee to turn down the appointment, after Pauline Tallen, former deputy governor of Plateau state, turned it down as well. While Tallen announced her decision to decline the appointment in public, Bugaje prevailed on by top government officials not to announce his rejection of the offer in the media. Tallen had rejected her nomination on the grounds that there was no “proper consultation”. She had also explained that her decision was done in fairness to other parts of the state.

President Buhari is currently in a closed door meeting with APC governors. The meeting is being held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. Amongst the governors in attendance are the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, governors of Adamawa, Plateau, Kogi, Kaduna, Edo, Ogun, Kano, Kebbi and Benue States. Others are to join the meeting later. The reason for the meeting is yet to be disclosed.

Igbo Union in Malaysia has announced the sudden demise of Eze Ndigbo of Malaysia, Chief Izuchukwu Nwajiaku. Chief Izuchukwu, a successful businessman, who is into exporting of goods, reportedly died in his sleep on Sunday October 23rd, just two month after his coronation, leaving behind his wife and three children.

Orobosa Igbinedion & Umar Mantu had their traditional engagement in Abuja recently. The couple's final wedding ceremony was held on Saturday in South Africa. The reception was attended by friends and family of both couples. 

Family and associates of ex-Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, are making efforts to raise N100m to release him from the detention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. A source said the family had taken a decision that the former minister would not spend another week in the detention facility of the commission.

Recession is sure affecting many, including the very rich. The current hardship rocking the economy has hit one of the biggest employers of labour in Nigeria as the Dangote Group, belonging to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has fired 48 senior members of staff. Those sacked were made up of 36 expatriate and 12 Nigerian workers from the group’s headquarters and one of the subsidiaries, Dangote Cement Plc.

A lecturer at Pan Atlantic University, Dr. Austin Nweze, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to explore the options of crashing interest rate, stimulating local production, sustaining the ban on the importation of products for which there are local substitutes and rework the fiscal and monetary policies of the economy. Speaking in Lagos at the weekend, the Political Economist said recession does not happen in an economy overnight, arguing that it must have given policy makers enough warning before unleashing its venom on the economy.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered an investigation into the purchase and distribution of vehicles by his predecessors. The probe was informed by discovery that ex-senior officers, including former IGs and the Deputies were in the habit of appropriating police vehicles for their personal use.

The National Judicial Council is set to bar media reportage of the allegations of misconduct levelled against judges and employees of the judiciary. This is contained in the National Judicial Policy to be launched by the NJC today. If allowed, the policy will widen the dark veil that shields disciplinary proceedings against judges. Under the new policy, NJC or any institutions of the judiciary shall discard a complaint sent against a judge or employee of the judiciary for investigation if after receiving the complaint it is leaked or discussed in the media.

Sources say some of the arrested judges have already started threatening Governor Nyesom Wike that they will expose everyone involved in the bribe with them (one of them a woman) if things continue the way they were going for them.

The Nigeria Police Force leadership  has said there would be no cover-up in the case of the Assistant Commissioner of Police arrested with N2.7 million bribe money. The Head, Compliant Response Unit, CRU, Abayomi Shogunle, disclosed this in an interview with the NAN in Abuja. He said the police had taken all necessary actions provided in the Police Act and Regulations in respect of the case.

One of the Lecturers was indicted for illegally forcing his Entrepreneurship Development (EED) students to submit items ranging from 15 buckets of Paints, 15 gallons of 20 liters oil, 30 buckets of Custard etc produced by each group of 10 students and submitted to him without passing through the due process of Knowledge Acquisition.

A postgraduate student at the University of Ilorin, AbdulHafeez Adedimeji, died on Saturday, the day he was to receive his doctorate at a convocation. Sadly, sources said that another doctoral graduand also died shortly before the ceremony.

Police in Ogun State has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Odele Tosin, for allegedly masterminding the kidnap of a 12-year-old girl, Eniola Oyekanmi, in the Ketu area of Lagos. The victim was said to have been kidnapped on Friday by the gang at Orimerunmu area of Ketu. Policemen from Mowe Division reportedly rescued Oyekanmi around 1am on Saturday in a hotel. She was taken to a hotel at Mowe, Obafemi-Owode LGA of the state, as they demanded a ransom.

The prolonged cold war between President Muhammadu Buhari and his erstwhile close political ally and South-West political strongman, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, may soon come to an end. Reliable sources within the party said that the two sides began planning to bury the hatchet during a recent meeting that President Buhari held with some of Tinubu’s close men in Aso Rock. The President had met with the trio of Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun governor, Chief Bisi Akande, and Senator Olusola Adeyeye last week Sunday. The sources also said both parties agreed that the President needed to take some confidence-boosting measures to restore Tinubu’s faith in him.

A 30-year-old Nigerian woman, Ms Ijeoma, who hails from Enugu state has been arrested at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos airport for drugs smuggling. The suspect currently lives in Brazil and has a national diploma in mass communication.

 The Federal Government is set for the prosecution of two Supreme Court Justices and 7 other judges in spite of memos written by 3 of them to Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed. The charges against the judges are now ready, following conclusion of investigation by the DSS. Also, according to The Nation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started probing the accounts of six judges of the Federal High Court who are undergoing interrogation. The anti-graft commission has allegedly discovered payment of bribe sums/financial assistance into the accounts of two of the six judges.

Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi last night described the allegation by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta as a lie and part of a “heavily-funded plot” to bring him down. Amaechi, in a statement by his media office, said: “Justice Ngwuta’s allegation as it concerns him is nothing but pure fiction, a dubious diversionary tale concocted to muddle the very serious issues of his arrest and investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS).

A Startimes Operations Manager in Minna, Niger state named Damilare Oladapo Oluwafeyisan, 35 gruesomely passed away on Monday, 17th, October, 2016 after suffering a severe fire accident from an electric generator explosion. According to his fiancée - Miss Temitope Makinde who spoke to Tori News, Mr. Oluseyisan fondly called Dre was assisting his neighbour to switch off the seemingly faulty generating set around 12:15am on Sunday, the 16th of October when the device inexplicably caught fire which rapidly spread across his body.

Less than a week after sacking 17 junior officers, the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the dismissal of 29 senior officers, including four deputy comptrollers and five assistant comptrollers. Others affected in the latest purge are 7 chief superintendents and four superintendents of customs.  Ten other officers were retired from the service.

A few days after Justice Inyang Okoro accused the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of seeking to manipulate a court judgement, another senior justice has made similar allegations. Justice Sylvester Ungwuta, also of the Supreme Court, accused Amaechi of attempting to manipulate him to rule in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in an election case.

Alhaji Aliyu Saidu Abubakar, one of the leading voices in a campaign for the Senate to be scrapped to save cost, on Wednesday, insisted that Nigeria does not deserve a bicameral legislature. Aliyu, who is a nominee representing North East in the proposed Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) stated that the upper legislative chamber was a waste of fund and government resources.
